White Wines
Of the New World

King Estate, Pinot Gris                        Willamette Valley, Oregon 1997            $20.

Geyser Peak, Sauvignon Blanc                    Sonoma County           1999 $16.
Noticed a small affinity for sauvignon blanc?  This one is crisp, light, refreshing, and racy - strangely enough, you can almost tell just by looking at the bottle.  Its core is citrusy, and its Wine Spectator rating is 86.

Pine Ridge, Chenin Blanc-Viognier               Napa 1998            $15.

Bonny Doon, Pacific Rim Riesling                California                     NV           $15.
We were always trying to figure out why there was no vintage on the label (which is a cool label, by the way).  Finally, it was discovered that this beauty is made from a blend of grapes from California, Washington, and Germany - creating a nice non-vintage riesling.  Crisp lemon, apple, and mineral notes predominate.  Wine Spectator rated 85.

Columbia Crest, Semillon-Chardonnay     Washington                  1997 $14.
Semillon is a white varietal that lends depth to any wine it comprises; it is gaining rapidly in popularity, especially in Australia.  This Washington blend is one to try if you're seeking something a bit different, but not too different.  Tobacco and earthy notes surround a core of apple and fruit.  Wine Spectator rated 85.

San Quirico, Vernaccia di San Gimignano     Tuscany, Italy            1998            $17.
If you can't say the name, that's okay . Name aside, this Italian white fits somewhere between a sauvignon blanc and chardonnay.  It starts light, crisp, and fruity, then fans into a heavier finish.  A good match for salmon.
